| Workstation Neck Pain Causes | Common neck pain is due to muscle strain or tension. Commonly, everyday activities are responsible. Usually, people that work in front of the computer are prone to get neck pain:
- You like to hold the telephone between your head and your shoulder. Such posture can cause neck and shoulder pain. You have to make sure that your head is straight and your shoulders are relaxed while talking by the phone.
- When the documents you are working from are too low or too far to the side. Tilting and turning your head to read from documents and then transcribe them can cause tension on your neck. You have to position the documents at the same level as your monitor.
- If your monitor is not directly at the right height, or is too far to the side, the twisting or tilting movement you are using to view it can causes neck pain.
- If your chair is too far away from your keyboard, or the back of the chair is tilted too far back, such positions will outstretch your arms, forcing your neck and shoulders to do additional work supporting them. And as a result you will get neck and shoulders pain.
- People that wear bifocals tend to tilt their head slightly back to view the monitor. This additional tension on the neck can lead to the neck pain and headaches.
- People who wear glasses often lean forward to view the screen properly. This causes the neck and back pain. Sometimes people with naturally normal sight adopt this posture out of habit.
Some other daily activities can cause neck pain:
- Bending over the desk for hours - Having poor posture while reading or watching TV - Placing your computer monitor too high or too low - Sleeping in uncomfortable position - Turning and twisting the neck while in a jarring manner while exercising - Slouching - Painting a ceiling etc.
